Description

Scanned, which made far too much sense, but also mandated that I do some restoration due to some of the garbage that the scanner applies to everything that it scans. This is done for I have achieved what I wished to achieve in artistic expression; yes I realize well that I could have put more into it to make it even more aesthetically 'perfect'. I have left obvious signs of my craft that I otherwise might have continued to obscure, however I am a traditional artist for the most part, not a concise reproducer of form as seen in life. This is mostly representational, but I intentionally leave the afore-noted signs of my process because I want for you, the viewer, to see them.

I don't like that I feel the need to say this sort of thing to avoid immediate, shallow judgement. Maybe I shouldn't care about the opinions of those who are so quick to judge...

I love her expression—very human and very interesting. I also like the way her hair almost seems to fade into the background; it's not "realistic" per se, but interesting nonetheless—it seems to emphasize the brightness and detail of her facial expression rather than the rougher, darker, almost amorphous background.

You're right; I wouldn't look at this and say, "Wow, it looks like a photograph!" However, you're also right in saying that this isn't a bad thing. I've wondered for a while why it is that one of the highest compliments that can be bestowed upon a drawing or painting is, "It looks like a photograph," while one of the highest compliments that can be received by a photograph is, "It looks like a painting." Why not, "It looks like an excellent painting" for a painting, or "It looks like a beautiful photograph" for a photograph?

But I'm just babbling now; don't mind me. If I knew how to draw at all, I'd give you some critique, but . . . yeah, no. No I don't. ;)
